Since 1920, the doors of the Thackston School have been open to children, giving them a special place to "grow up." Mrs.Thackston's School, as it was originally named, was the first private day school in Knoxville. The school is situated in an historic, old-style Fort Sanders home in the University of Tennessee community near downtown Knoxville. The founding principles have remained the same since the beginning. The school was and still is devoted to providing a small, nurturing environment for educating children. Classes are kept small, ensuring that each child receives the personal attention needed to develop strong relationships with their teachers and classmates. Optimal learning takes place when children feel accepted and secure. At Thackston School, the student is the most important resource, and the school will continue to provide traditional education enhanced by new and innovative ideas to ensure a rewarding and enriching experience for all students.
